Founding Member, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation Legacy Society

Mike McCune

I have been involved with EGPAF's lifesaving work since its beginnings. I was invited to a Pediatric AIDS Foundation think tank in the early 1990s. That's where I first met EGPAF's Co-founders, Elizabeth Glaser, Susan DeLaurentis, and Susie Zeegen. I was immediately captivated by their smarts, their eloquence, their energy, and their passion. I have witnessed EGPAF's incredible growth over the years, both as a researcher in the field and, eventually, as a member of the EGPAF Board of Directors.

I am not the only member of my family actively involved with EGPAF's programs to end AIDS in children. Both of my daughters have participated in Dance Marathon, EGPAF's collegiate fundraising program. My youngest daughter, Emma, participated at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). She explains the impact of Dance Marathon, "We students have much more potential than we realize to make a difference: not only do these fundraising events raise a significant amount of money for the cause, they also help to raise awareness about the importance of the fight against HIV/AIDS."

For me, there is an underlying desire to serve, to help, and to bring comfort to those around us.

Each in her own way, my daughters are living their lives like this now—and I am proud of them for that. The future of EGPAF is incredibly important to me and my family; this is why my wife and I have included EGPAF in our will and I am proud to be the Founding Member of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation Legacy Society.
